My first pick 8)

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

My first pick 8)

Postby snowm » 8 Jun 2005 5:11

My first pick, it's based on the Patterson long reach, i did it with a template from nickz site and a dremel, the material was a stainless steel knife.

My next pick is going to be a rake, any advices? i thought maybe the king/queen rake or a falle rake.

Cheers

Wow that looks real nice man. You can just use hooks as a rake but if you where going to make something try something easier for your first attempt like make a diamond because it can be use for raking aswell. that looks good :D

and don't forget to give them nice handles, i've had loads of help on this from the guys here at lp101.
ps i'd make a half diamond next, since as geek says it can be used to rake, but it depends on your style and what locks you're dealing with.

hey snowm,

nice work! My suggestion on what pic to make next depends strongly on what you need and how expirienced you are with your dremel, on what picks you own and what locks you want to pic, what material you have access to, and so on.

If you have less to no expirience with your dremel or no picks beside the one you made, i'd strongly suggest you start with some basic pics (eg. half diamond, hook) in different sizes and a snake as rakeing-pic.

If you are well equipped and want to gain some expirience with making pics, do whatever interests you most, and then do the next ;)

If you have a special lock you want to pick, go, do some reading find out which pick works best on this type of lock and do that pick.

If you need some challenge and have access to nice sweeper bristles you may think about ripping off raimundos bogota picks. (just search for them if you aren't familiar with them) I've never read anything bad about them and they aren't _too_ difficult to make. There should be a tutorial by raimundo, on how to make them, on the web.

If none of the above categories matches, you may know alot more about you needs than i do.

hope you have fun grinding your own tools

You might also want to make a half round feeler. I find that these are excellent for pushing up pins.
