Just a note, since I just started also, and have had a little experience with trying to make carpet needles into picks. This process is very difficult to get thin enough and still be strong.
I never got it to work without breaking on the first try. Better to go get junked windsheild wiper blades and rip off the rubber to get the inserts as mentioned before.
