my pick set (would like some feedback)

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

they look a nice set, well done!

how do you find picking with the keyrings though the handles and the pther picks hanging off the end though? it looks good but i think it would annoy me eventually.

the 3rd pick from the right looks a little thin where it goes from the handle to the shaft, i'd be careful of going too thin because it could snap while you're picking with it.

other than that, nice set! i think the paint on the handles helps you tell the picks you use a lot from the ones you dont so you can get them quickly ;)

I think you will find you use the hooks and diamond most often.

One that you don't have that I use a lot is a small half round. Another useful pick may or may not be considered a pick is just a straight probe. I have found it quite useful since one of the members here noted the usefullness of a probe in someone's set that they had made.

I have all of mine on keyrings as well and do not find the keyring to be a problem at all.

I bought a set from Southord but I NEVER use them. I prefer the ones that I built myself.

My set is up to 16 now. Some I built for specific locks tha were giving me specific problems.

actually i put them on the keyrings for now untill i get a case for them, so i dont lose them, and it makes it a little more easier to carry them. as for the pick which you thought was thin.... i placed alot of pressure on them as a test ( way more then needed to pick any lock ive found) and they all seem fine... one thing i make sure is that I DONT overheat them when i make them i quench them every 8th of an inch of so. And even sooner when im close to the edge, I got some time in making the bevels on my chisles and one thing you dont want to do is burn the metal. so for all you new guys/girls making your own picks be patient and dont try to do that extra 1/4 inch before you quench it...

As for my picks ive added a few more to it..LOL, also i got a mini portable pick with 2 torque wrenches.

OH YEAH... I have an idea on what i want to do for when i make my premium set with case...hopefully i can make it withen the next few weeks. I'll show you when im done

Hey, I like that pocket knife set. You have inspired me to make one. Will post pics when done. BTW, how many picks are on that pocket knife?

I had the same idea on making small pocket set pick . With this type of knife you can make 2 picks. In the next side picks you have scissors :) a'la McGyver, hyh

kamil is right you can make 2 picks on it and the scissors are on the other side...also you you purchase a better one you could remove the toothpic from the slot and make picks to fit into where the toothpic was! that way you can have even more of a miniset.

I might do it but not with this knife... also the other piece of metal beside this one is a nail file and on this knife the metal is a lower grade. thats why i didnt make another one.. i might try it but i will have to be careful and test it out before i can become dependant on it

next you might want to make a couple of double T picks for those annoying warded padlocks. I got a yellow 'torch' similiar to yours, here they're called 'crack lighters'
