I agree with CHUCKLZ. and I suggest that if you want to make things easier on yourself, you might want to start picking/raking on the cheaper padlocks. You can work yourself up to the higher quality things once you master the ones with more play (slop) in them. "Don't try to start at the top if you haven't mastered the bottom."
I've been around awhile, so I've dealt with most of the locks that you have seen and probably dozens of others that you haven't. Don't get the wrong idea --- I am by NO means the last word in locksmithing, simply experienced. G-luck...
