Forte Lock-- heard of it?

Postby lockedin » 12 Jun 2005 15:12

I wish I had a picture, but I am wondering if anyone has heard of "Forte" locks? They were everywhere in Peru, I don't know about the rest of South America though (I saw a hardware store in Columbia selling them). Basically it was paracentric and because the pens were tilted it left very little room for manipulation. Speaking with a Peruvian locksmith, he told me that the lock was unpickable because of the strong weight coming from the springs. I can confirm this because when I tried to pick it-- no pins would set. He said when people were locked out he had to drill the lock. The picture's below are the only ones I could find, but it is different than the one's found in Peru (the keyway and exterior look very different).

Is anyone else obsessed with foreign locks (not just European)? Know of a good place to see pictures of them(preferably with English descriptions)?

Sorry im not aquainted to that lock but it only looks like a normal pin tumbler to me (i know you said it wasnt and im not saying your wrong)

Beleive me when i say it is not unpickable, dont beleive anyone that tells you a particular lock is unpickable, all it means is that person cant do it, i have yet to hear of a lock that cant be opened somehow without the key,

The springs wont be to strong as other wise you will not get a key in! if you can insert the key you can pick the lock.

If the pins are at an angle it may be a kind of dimple lock and should give way to the foiul impressioning technique but to be honest the keyway just looks like a regular one to me,

If you can get pics it would be great, one of the pins and orinentation would be the best,

Sorry i couldnt be any more help.

whew-- I'm glad someone else heard of it.... if you say they're pickable I hope you're referring to the same ones in South America. They pins aren't dimpled, just angled.
