If he can't, don't give up hope. There are street sweepers all over the place. All you need is some tools and given the fact that you have the pics of them right here as well as the info on how to make them, why not give a shot at reproducing them? It's fun to do anyways

It appeared to me that owning a set of these picks seemed to be somewhat of a right of passage through which many lockpickers have passed, so I was compelled to order a set for myself. I received them today. The following is my sincere and unbiased, unsolicited opinion:

Holy crap! These things are freakin' black magic!

Well done Ray. These are a fine piece of work and well worth every penny I spent on them. Folks, if you don't own a set of these, order them. If you can't afford them, sell something you really like 'cause it'll be worth it.

. I concur. I got 3 picks from Ray a while back myself. I'm getting better with the technique used for the bogota pick. I opened up an old Waterbury padlock the other day with it. It usually takes a while to open that one. I use slimline picks and light tension to crack that one. The keyway in it is so tiny. Took about 10 seconds to open it with the bogota. Man, they are "scary" good tools. They look so flimsy, but they are rock hard and super durable. Amazing tools.

My two toughest locks have fallen prey to the magic of the bogota and sabana pick. My technique with them is getting better. Put together good technique and Raimundos bogotas and you have yourself a recipe for success.
I have a 6 pin BEST padlock that opens almost as if I put a key into it. I've been fussing over this lock since December. I was beginning to think I'd never pick it open.
I opened up an old Eagle padlock which is usually a complete pain, with the help of the hook and the sabana pick.
Rays picks are to pin tumbler locks, what "magic keys" are to warded padlocks. God, I like these picks. I may have to buy more just in case mine breaks!! :shock:

Life without a bogota is no life at all....at least when it comes to picking locks!

I never kept the process secret, on how to make them, but I do it well, someone else would need a bit of experience to make them as well, that comes from doing it again and again. I think the real key to the design is the sanding, and I hand sand, while those who would use a motor to sand have the problem of sanding too agressively cutting into the metal too deep. I can make a set in an hour, and more time is in the sanding than anything else. ( I used to be a jeweler, so no metal project is finished till the finish is done.)

I think Ray should be renamed 'Black Beauty', because he was a dark horse too! Army veteran, cabbie, jeweler, locksmith.....the list goes on. :lol:

Seriously though, these tools are the dog's danglies. The function and attention to detail is superb and the revelation of being an ex-jeweler shows why. Keep it up man.

I've been reading up on lockpicking the whole day and there are some questions id like to ask:
*there seems to be a manual on making bogota-style picks by raimundo which i was unable to find. If someone can post a link i'd be greatful. If it's fine with raimundo i am willing to host it.
*are these picks hardened and if so which parts are hardened.

When i stumbled upon this thread some days ago, i knew i _needed_ some of those. While thinking about ordering some of those (which is still in my mind, are there any left?) i decided to try to make some myself. They worked out nicely and i will stay with this design for at least my next few picks. I liked the idea with the ruber tube too, but decided to make it longer so it covers the tips of the tools only remaining the ?tension wrenches? uncovered, so i can carry them around without damageing either the picks or my pockets. I even used the tube as a pick itself when "encountering" a small 4 pin tubular lock an a HD-frame.

*Is there any specific design idea behind the short tube? Otherwise a longer tube may be more comfortable.

Anyways, I'll start with a small set as soon as i've got some time left.

Yes, i found the link, but you need to log in to get it. This requires you to have an account at yahoo, which i haven't. To create an account you need to give away your creditcard info which is :

a) impossible for me, as i don't own one
b) inacceptable either

If anyone who has an existing account at yahoo is willing to create one for me (which does not include giving away any credidcard info, as this is soly for age verification) that would be great! Just pm login/pw to me.

I am willing to do some legal, LP101-related hosting in return. The server can take some load/traffic so videos are fine for me too.

Unless things have changed all you have to do is sign up for a free email account. No credit cards and you can give them bogas info on sign up... and should do so.

I don't know what angers me more, this weak implemntation of security by obscurity implemented at yahoo or that i was unable to find the way around it by myself , and no the combination doesn't do any better

!

Anyways, now i have access to the bogota-rake-howto, so at least all the trouble has payed.
