Raimundo's Bogota "How to" documents

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

With kind permission, I'm proud to be able to link LP101 to raimundo's step-by-step documents on producing the Bogota rake/pick set. Click on the links below, then once the image has loaded, right-click and 'save-as'.

Bogota Making Tutorial BY raimundo!

Indeed, Ray has taken some pics to walk you all through the process he uses to make his famous picks! Because this is a picture tutorial, I have opted not to post all the pics within this thread, as it would choke up those poor souls on dialup.

Here's the link:
<Snip>Dead link.. sorry guys</Snip>

Thanks Ray for some great pics! It's nice to see it done as the master does it. :)

Cheers,

db

makeing picks.

Postby raimundo » 17 Jun 2005 8:38

I would like to see this thread turn into a place for people to talk about making them. And using them. A number of people on the forum have the picks, and some praise them highly, while I know that there are others who don't seem to mention them, either they are being very private, or they just haven't used the "technique' or they are european and dealing with different kinds of locks. I believe that the handles help with the technique for picking, and people who are irreversibly committed to the popcicle handles and heavy tension prying with hooks have trouble getting the bogota pick to work for them. There is some difference in the size of the pickers hands, some people say they are just too small, but for that I have made some that are slightly larger.

now i'll finally have some bogota picks everyone is so excited about. but i wonder, can i make them with sawblades? i never found street wiper bristlers in this town... and to go 20kilometres off just to get some street cleaner bristles is kinda overkill :)

Hello everyone!

some random thoughts:

I made my own bogota rake ripoff some days ago, and while there is much room for improfing those(the mountains of my rake are too close too each other), I'm still very satisfied with the results i get using them, and I'll order a set from raimundo soon as i am interested in how much they actual differ qualitywhise. I will post a picture of mine as soon as a have access to a cam.

I mostly pick euro-cylinders (cheap EVVAs) and, the rake works very well on them. I've had less success picking my padlocks(mostly ABUS and cheapos from supermarket) as the springs are alot harder and the handles of my picks are too weak.

I coulndn't get the same wonderful finish by using 600 grit sandingpaper so i used a polishing rubber for polishing mine, and my picks don't align that properly as i bent mine seperatly.

Is there any way to make flashing links with BBcode?

Or even better, an autorun that opens links when a page is accessed...

Great guide! Gave it a try yesterday and finished with moderate success. The guides doesent say what gap length is used, so the gaps in my pick might a little wide. Anyone got an idea of the perfect peak-to-peak length?

peak to peak

Postby raimundo » 18 Jun 2005 8:07

approximately, one pin in the lock would be at the top of a peak, and the next pin at the bottom of the valley, but there is a fair amount of variation, usually a matter of which chainsaw sharpening file I use to make the round cuts. Sanding and rounding off the edges is the real key to the whole design.

Raimundo, here's my little U.K contribution to your great picks!
Thought about making them but always so short on time! so yesterday, after printing off your instructions I went to my little workshop and made:
Image
Tested on the two locks (yale 5 pin rim cylinder and a ISEO 5 pin euro cylinder) and you guessed it, popped in seconds!
Image
So a BIG thank you! nice looking little tools but mine are slightly smaller than the recommended size, there wiper blades as I have no sweeper bristles.
Now I have made these I plan to make many more to this style!
Cheers!
