"The more play or rotation in the plug [when using just a tension wrench] the lower the precision of manufacture and the easier the lock is to bypass."

Do you think this is true? I have a very high security American padlock that has a lot of plug rotation when turned from left to right and back again, is this the kind of play that is meant here? Or does he mean when turned only in the opening direction? This quote is from The Complete Guide to Lockpicking by Eddie the Wire.

This is not always true. A five pin lock loaded with spool pins will have more rotational play in the plug than the same lock with normal pins, but in general will be more dificult to pick.

If you have a high security American padlock it's not the plug itself that's rotating a lot, it's the whole cylinder in the body of the padlock that's shifting on ya, the plug probably doesn't turn much at all.

But anyways, to answer your question. Generally fact.
