Another new lock...for me

Hey Guys,

We are currently undergoing a lock change program here at work, and are changing from Lockwoods to *probably* Abloy pro disc locks (or something similar).

As a result, I have got my hands on some truly datardly lock cylinders...

They are lockwood (I believe 'V Series'), with controlled keys. They are seven pin locks, with between 4 and 5 spool security pins.

The interesting thing is that the pin stacks are not vertical, but offset (by about 7 degrees), so that every second pin in staggered.

Out of a hundred or so attempts, I have only managed to pick the lock once (after about 1.5hrs straight :x ), and from experience drilling them is a nightmare.

Are these a particularly common lock? I haven't seen them anywhere else...

N.

yyou have what we call Lockwood V 7 locks. Most are master keyed to a key system so you have multipal sher lines but you also have up to 4 spool pins in there as well.
They do pick easy with a bit of practice but you need to know how to tell a spool pin from a picked pin to be sucssesful

That sounds like them.

One thing tho, they are not master keyed (I know that sounds crazy for a building with over a hundred locks, but due to secured areas etc. there are no master keys! )

The one cylinder I dissasembled had 5 spools, but that may have been specially prepared!

Easy to pick? I must need some serious pratice  ...

Perhaps I'tt just go home, curl up in the corner with my one pin practice lock, and daydream aboput being a master locksmith!
