hi guys,
i am wondering if any of you could help,
i got a job tonight it was a upvc door 18 months old i think it is a mila as the back doors are the same, the woman unlocked it today and the handles just kept spinning, i take the handles off and noticed that the hole the spindle goes through has sheared off leaving a L shaped spindle hole instead of a square shape. the door is unlocked but the hooks and deadbolt are still engaged, i know i could open it if it was just the mushroom type of lock but its got 2 hooks and 1 deadbolt making it a pain to open, i have been looking at the multipoints i have to see what operates the handle part of the lock but mine are all sealed units :x i had a look at the hinges and they had a allen screw in the bottom of each if thats any help, but i really dont want to take the door off.
any advice would be very much appreciated
thanx

Ray,i take it the cylinder is operating correctly? If so can you spread the door with an air wedge enough to be be able to knock the hooks back?

hi andy,
i did have a try to spredd the door with the air wedge but couldnt seem to get enough of the wedge in between the door, i could try squirting some fairy liquid on it to see if that helps.

Ray,

Even though the spindle hole is sheared, there may be enough of it left to manipulate with a screwdriver or similiar - I've managed to unlock/lock doors using this method before, even with the spindle hole completely in pieces. Otherwise, it's airbag or deglaze and attach from the inside. I'd personally leave the hinges as a last resort if dealing with hookbolts.

Rockford, how do you deglaze form the outside? is it just pressure? or was you meaning deglaze from the inside?

Sorry for the adolescent question

Cred, when I get my camera to work properly I'll send you a picture but
for now, if it is a Mila then face the lockcase with the bolts to the right.

From the centre of the euro hole down about 30mm and about 13mm to
the right there is a verticle slot about 20mm in length. At the bottom of
the slot which will be another 7/8mm down there is a circle shape. Move
this up to the top of the slot and it will retract the bolts. Obviously you'll
have to make some small holes in the door but they will be covered by the
handles after.

This has been my most common problem with Mila mechs, and has most
probaly broken due to pressure on the bolts which means the
keep will need adjusting and the bolts might be hard to retract,
broken parts falling into the lockcase might cause a problem aswell, but
I've done this many times so it does work. I'll send a picture as soon as I
can. :)
