Oooooooooo k. I started this a few days ago and now its no prob for me to pop a DB 4 pin pad lock in 10 seconds or less. Im using tools I've made "Thanks to Pyro" and they are working great. My next lock is a Master pad lock. Im not sure what model t is.... but it has a rubber coating over the case and loop. Its only a 4 pin lock too so why is it so much more difficult to pick???? Any body ????

Hey guys, I'm the newest member to join your "pick page" and so far everything I've read was very helpful. The first lock i picked was a simple 3 pin lock on my desk. I used a crude pick made of a bent metal wire and a flathead screwdriver. It took about an hour at first, but now that I have the hang of it, i can do it in 5 seconds. After picking the desk i moved on and picked the Kwikset lock on my front door, that took about 20 minutes. So I suppose I'm making pretty good progress. Other than that i just wanted to say hi to everyone.

Welcome Xen,

Congrats on your picks, Generally Kwiksets or their counterparts are considered great for beginners because they have standard pins(generally), a relatively large and free keyway, and low tolerances. It is still suggested that you start that deadbolt with one or two pins. To pick a Kwikset within 20 minutes at the start of your picking hobby/career is something to be proud of. Now the question will be can you pick it quickly and consistently? Keep challenging yourself, great job so far.

Yeah im still working on doing it consistently, i think that the Kwikset pick may be a fluke, but I'm done for tonight, im rubbing my finger raw.

Wow, I just found this site and it is really cool. I would love to learn how to become a professional locksmith. In my area they make very good money. The downside is late night calls but for the money it would be worth it. What are the best and least expensive tools for me to start out with until I see if this is my forte? I am completely dumb when it comes to, how to become a professional. Do you have to go to college? Do you have to get certified? Or do you just have to learn and prove yourself? Thanks for your help. I'm located in Tennessee.
