new pick, but isnt working correctly...

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

this is my new pick that i made 2day but it is having some problems opening the smallest of padlocks. It opens desk locks great, but what doesnt... I think it might have something to do with the second bump, i think it might be a little too tall...

It looks like a decent tool, are you sure it's the pick and not the operator? Small locks can be tricky due to their small keyways, you may want a smaller, thinner pick. Nice Bogota, but if you're new, why didn't you make a hook? Raking will not work well with a high low keying scheme. Go ponder these things, then build yourself a hook.

Nice pick you've got there. You should really put a serious finish on it thou. (e.g. with 600 grit wet/dry sandingpaper). Make sure all the edges are smoothed down properly. This will improove the performance of the pick alot.

I also agree with SFGOON, regarding the hook. You really need some hooks and/or half diamonds. They work as single pin rake and as single pin pick. You will find yourself opening almoust any lock with a nicely shaped hook. I had great results with a FALLE style deephook I made.

Don't forget to check out all the nice DIY picks on this forums if you need inspiration. And check out the HOWTOs on finishing picks, and of course pyros video on pickmaking too.

Keep up the good work, keep pictures comming, and of course keep picking

Make the vallys slightly deeper and if you are useing the tool the way up shown turn it upside down and use it the other way, dont always rake with it, a gentle in and out slightly with a lift and drop here and there works well with those,

Hi Rean 1611

Very good for a second attempt. I agree with Shrub, slightly deeper valleys and perhaps a slight tapering where the shaft meets the business end...but a nice pick. :) :) :) :)

As these other posters said perhaps a hook or a half diamond next, but the rake is a good addition to your collection and it certainly won't be wasted. I know the rest of the guys love their hooks, but I just love the style of a good rake.

regards
