Question about tubular picks

Postby nextlevel » 2 Aug 2005 12:12

has anyone seen the movie with the Rapper "DMX" and Jet Li "Cradle 2 the Grave" where DMX is in the elevator and he uses some sort of super small tubular pcik that goes into the elevator controls and it has a almost switch blafde type effect when he hits a button the tubular pick comes out and he is able to stick it into the tubular lock of the elevator and pick it in a matter of 5 seconds by making a simple turn????????

Thats movie lockpicking for ya. Make it look fast, easy and cool. Even well thought out movies like Sneakers kinda got it wrong.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

its not a pick, its a key, explains why its so small!!! tubular picks are much much much more complicated than that!! and theres some that are more complicated still!!

:lol:

I thought so. I had never seen something like that and it was just sort of funy. He hit a button and it flew out like a jack-knife style blade and whatnot and then into the lock and "bam" it was done.

Well, there are some tubular locks that open that quickly with a pick, though.....

val kilmer in 'the saint'

Postby raimundo » 7 Aug 2005 17:17

this movie shows the young teenager 'saint' in some sort of english school thats all about kids getting spanked with wood, and he has this jacknife pick that comes from the same school of design as michael jacksons zipper suits, after that set up, he has the same pick when he breaks into some russian mafia stash in moscow or st pete, while dressed as alien as those contestants on the short lived court tv show "heist", all speedo and gadgets. I don't think I could pick a lock with something that hokey.
But there is a question here, nano tech is off and running, cell phones get smaller, but we are still picking with one or two stiff moving parts, no pick has been invented that can change pick shape inside the lock while picking, that can sense and respond to pin states, etc. I guess the reason why is because we are a low tech cultural backwater. A slough with no current, just turtles and frogs. When is the next level gonna start, and are we gonna have to buy the toys from the corporations, or will some of us be capable of inventing or reproducing them. William Gibson would be dissapointed by this future.
