Ok, I am just starting this lock picking thing and I wanted to know if you guys have a rule to know witch way a lock turns.
I have noticed my door lock turns c-c-wise and my gun lock turns c-wise.
May be a stupid question, so plz don't flame the noob.
thnx

First of all Spencer, your an idiot
Just kidding
There is no rule, it depends on the lock. For example, my Master gunlocks turn clockwise only, (if you get into picking you'll see why it is so important to keep your guns in a safe and ammo seperate )
They make a plug spinner which allows you to spin the plug in the opposite direction if you picked it the wrong way. In general, if you plan to be a lockpicker, you are going to need to practice, you will learn which way certain brands of locks turn by practicing with them. If you have a specific lock that you want to know which way it turns, just ask. Welcome to Lp101-hope your stay is a happy one

I don't know much about gun locks, but almost any locks you'll encounter will open c.c.wise.
Also, please fill out your profile so we can help you when answers differ with regional location. And last but not least:

corrections, some locks will open ccw, i.e. First Watch padlock. Almost any lock you encounter will open cw or just both ways...(mind refreshed by db)

Spencer,
It would help to fill in your profile as far as location, at least a country and region. As this is a world-wide forum, and locks are generally produced in regions, you will find that you get better and more accurate responses that way

-Padlocks are CW.
-Deadbolts turn away from the frame so if it's mounted on left, it's CW, if it's on the right, it's CCW.
-Key in Knobs are the reverse of deadbolts in my experience.
-Car's are tricky. I think door's are CCW and the trunk depends on the car. Ignition is always CW. These are just my experiences though and cars vary more than any other locks I've played with.
That's what I go by anyway.
