decode kits

I've recently been having a few problems using my union plastecine kit on certain chubb 3u's. Does anyone have the Safeventures upgrader kit and is it worth buying.

The measurements are completely out. Eg the correct code for a 3u74 i have is 2 3 2 1 3, however the impression was completely out.all measuring (apart from the 1) around 9mm!!!!

Al
If you have been having the same problem, from when you bought the kit on all the locks you have.(eg the problem is consistant +/-0.5mm)

i would say that your reader key has been milled down too much and the blade isen't as long as it should be to get the correct readings using your vernier.

did you receive the instructions for use in the box when you bought the kit??

Thanks for the reply Gary. Most of the locks i have tried it on opens straight away.so the tool itself is fine. Some Union E types take a few attempts now and again, it's just some of the 3u's.Just a bit more patience required i guess.

To change the subject slightly, i have a question on the Legge pin and cam.- I've tried out a couple of legge 5647's (old black) locks with the p&c, but again the readings are all above the highest readings on the chart, thus having to take each pin 1 at a time, checking if it doesn't bind, moving onto the next 1 etc, etc. Is this the case with this type of lock with the p&c? This is not really a problem as the lock will open eventually, just wanted to make sure i'm not missing anything here.

the old lock uses a different plastercine impression chart than the new 5641 lock.
if you havnt access to this chart, then its a simple process to make up your own chart from the readings that you are getting.

Thanks Pinky. Very grateful. I've bought quite a few SV kits all around the same time. They are all excellent tools but i was expecting them to work all as easily as the 114 p&c ,but still need a few hours practice yet. Thanks

the legge p & c is very different to 114 and the 110 is different again, though all work the same as a true pin and cam, feel is often different especialy when determining true gates and anti picks, as is the feel on a bind and a stiff wheel.

although many will tell you that 1 pin and cam works the same as the next, this is not so, same for plastercine kits and slide decoders, every lock is different and so is the tool in some way, nothing replaces getting stuck in with good honest practice and understanding of the lock.

I've seen it on a previous post before but can't find it again, but what can be used for replacement pins on decode/pc systems.

Piano wire can do, silver steel if you can get it.

Read somewhere about a great way way of making securefast decode kit by cutting a number 1 in a key blank in each lever position then working out a code chart. Any tips on producing a make up key anyone?
