1) Welcome to LP101 deetS!

2) You might want to fill out your profile. This will save you some time(you don't have to write your country in every post ) and is considered good behavior in this forum. This is mostly due to differing locks, laws, ... in different parts of the world.

3) I don't know which brands are common in france, but I'm pretty sure they are mostly 5-pin pintumbler locks.

4) Please check out some commonly used brands in your area, If you can give us the names we should be able and willing to give you some info.

5) Your english is fine

6) Searching is good for you! (Tm)

7) have fun and keep on picking (you do pick, do you?)

2) It's done.

3) Yes.

4) Vachette, RR ...

5) Thanks. :D

here we are !!! :-)

on this Vachette you have two models ... one with a lock entry looking like a 5 number and another one looking more or less like [ which are the most common in Fr

most of the time these basic questions are no sense cause you have the answer just under your eyes or you have only to ask in the LP101 database research window

I don't want to seem unpleasant ... but if you're beginning to learn lockpicking you have to be a good observer and a good analyst for the locks and its mechanism ... so ...

anyway ... you're welcome !! and you can disturb me for any relevant question

I was just asking if you practice lockpicking. Sometimes ask lock/lockpicking related questions on this site even if they don't actually pick themselfes.

Hi there.

As has been said, by far the most common type of locks on existing buildings (at least in the Midi) seem to be 5-pin Euro cylinders. Those are the cheapest locks one would bother to use.

On new buildings though, flat-key, six- or seven-pin locks with security features (antipick pins, drill protection) seem to be getting more popular. Those are a lot harder to pick for novices like me.

For info on what an Euro cylinder is, or any other terms you may be unfamiliar with, please use the search feature and/or Google as a first resource. Consider using Google Image search also, that one picture worth a thousand words thing, you know :)

Our street door in Paris has a Euro profile cylinder with a flat key, with a largish number of pins.

Our flat door has a monster cylinder the like of which I've not seen anywhere else. It has a T-shaped cross section each leg of which drives pins. There seem to be 21 pins in all - 7 per leg. I'd like to know what make it is. There are no makers names visible.

It's a while since I've been at the flat. I've not had a chance to look closely at this monster lock since my recent first steps into novice locksmithing (my new evening job, hopefully).
