The twist is so you can press against the flat side instead of the edge, it's more comfortable.

They also bend more easily, allowing you to apply gentler and more flexible tension without having Super Light Fingahs. A straight wrench will send just about every ounce of pressure you apply straight to the plug.

Brings up a thought, do you reguarly lighten your finger pressure to change tension, or move your finger farther away down the wrench keeping the same pressure? Probably a combination of both, at least in my case, just looking for input.

I generally just lighten. I don't have a set-in-stone rule for where I put my finger, but I don't move it to adjust tension. Of course, nowadays I'm rarely using a long, straight wrench anyway.

My favourite tension wrench for padlocks, is a
snug fitting piece of 1.8mm (by eye) piece of flatbar
that I made and is about 25mm x 35mm (by eye).
The ends are rounded and I love it.
This wrench doesn't have a twist because I am happy
with it the way it is, although the rest of mine all have
twists, the exceptions being ones that I have made from 'wire/rod'.
