im completely new to lockpicking. before yesterday i had never even thought about wanting to pick locks... but yesterday i had stayed out a bit too late.... 6:45 a.m. on a school day...right.. mom wasnt too happy about that so she went and got a steering wheel club for my eclipse... that was the worse thing that could happen to me, but thank god for this sight. i searched lockpicking in msn search and this was the #1 result so i thought i'd check it out. i looked at tons of posts, watched the videos people posted and i thought i cant do that stuff. today when i got home from school i was bored so i felt like trying to pick the steering club's lock. grabbed a small screwdriver and a 9/16 in. staple. i started raking the pins and it only took about 30 seconds and bam i had it unlocked. now i am about to buy some practice locks and do this more often. it feels like a puzzle to me.

Uhhhhh..... welcome. It's good that you're interested in lockpicking, but...... *sigh*
There is a thread that you can post introductions in, but I suppose it's too late now.
Technically, your mum owns the steering lock, and you shouldn't pick locks you don't own, but that was awfully dastardly of you to go and pick it......
Welcome and happy picking.
Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....

What to say what to say...
Those clubs have disc wafer locks, and are fairly easy to pick, true.
I'm going to tell you right away that your story has already seriously injured your cred on this site. We don't like to encourage any behavior that could be considered criminal. If you want to be able to participate without getting flamed, marginalized, ignored, I strongly suggest you clean it up. None of us are here to encourage crime, or worse yet, petty juvinile mischief.

The first time I picked a lock was on a box my dad put over the thermostat. He threatened to do it 'cuz I wouldn't stop turning up the heat. So he installs the thing, and I went and got my picks and picked it open after he went to bed. I then turned it up a tad more than usual and locked the keys inside the box. He went apesh*t when he woke up, and I got a good laugh out of it. I understand completely, but I'm just telling you, use your powers for good, and once we have evidence of this, we'll teach you to pick whatever you want.

Dude, please don't use this forum as a tool to get back at your mother over some domestic dispute. 6:45am is too late to be out on a school night. Mainly because it affects your ability to retain information you learn in school.
Using lockpicking as vengence isn't what this forum is about. We're about picking locks for the fun of it, not to say "THINK YOU CAN STOP ME NOW, MOTHER? WELL I'VE GOT TWO WORDS FOR YOU MOM: SPRING STEEL. UH-HUH, THATS RIGHT MOM. THE POWER OF COLD ROLLED STEEL TO THE POINT OF SPRINGY TENSION IN MY HANDS IS WHAT I'M GOING TO USE AGAINST YOU."
If this was our point of motivation, we'd be called LPAM1014V. (Lockpicking Against Mothers 101 For Vengence)
So please, refrain from using this for alterior motives.
AND, just a note, if the car IS in your mothers name, and you do decide to remove the club. She might technically be able to bring charges on you for breaking into her car. And then the police would start to ask questions about your new 'burglary tools'. Then they would take them away, and no doubtly in their act of interrogation, you would mention LP101, which would bring us heat, and we wouldn't like that at all, because eventually, we wouldn't be able to share this new love and hobby that we all share.
-Dave.
Never underestimate the half-diamond.

Welcome, but don't ever use your lockpicking to get around a grounding. The next thing you know, your mom will pull out that old photo album with those naked baby pictures of you and start showing them to your girlfriends while describing how cuuuuuute you were (I shudder just to think of it)
Seriously: great hobby, might lead to a locksmithing job in the future or even make you a hero to someone locked out, but it can also get you into trouble fast. In short, don't pick it if its not yours (works for noses and locks).

You know, I was "this close" to deleting this thread after reading the OP, but man... you guys are great! I hardly have to work around here!
jessejames: Welcome to the site. Do heed the advice given here. You will get yourself in a whole heap of trouble if you're not carefull. I was glad to hear that your mother was a somewhat knowing participant in your actions. That softens it quite a bit. Just be careful. In the end, the parents "win" anyway. But don't worry, that's how it's s'posed to be.

Chrispy;
GO TO YOUR ROOM! (We no longer look
kindly on certain cowboys taking advantged
of Native Americans) Tonto is sure to here of
this
Jesse,
You had a funny story to tell and you told it
honestly, and in good faith As you have
seen we are a bit protective of our abilities and
the sharing of them. In the end, as with all of us
it will be up to you what you use these skills for.
I would ask that you not sign up under a new name,
nor should you be tentative on posting in the
future. You've done nothing but be honest, and
yes that first pick is a thrill, just know it does come
with some responsibility.
We just need you to understand that we take our
sport/hobby seriously, and we do not want our good
name tarnished. I know it sounds odd , but
I have never met a more upstanding and honest group
of people anywhere in my life. If the Lp101 community
all lived in my city, I wouldn't feel the need to lock my doors
p.s. I might lock up my sheep if I had any,
heard some strange stuff about Chrispy,
Mad Mick, and that SFGOON character

Well said, there is no need to get ugly in here.
Everyone posted with the intent to help, and that was great. I read this post right after I left work and realized many people have said what I was going to say...so...I congradulate you on your first picking experience, but I shun your choice. But that's just life. As you can see, morals are high and well respected in this community, so try to be apart of its growth and not its destruction.
Welcome!!!

Well, cracksman, if we all lived in the same city there would be little point in locking the doors. I personally have never seen a sheep, but you appear to own several...
So what's up with that, you're not a shepard, what do you have them for?
