The Lock Depot

Postby stick » 17 Oct 2004 20:56

Two questions.

1.) Does anyone have any experience with the Lock Depot? I'm thinking about buying from that site because they offer HPC picks, and don't require you to be a locksmith.

2.) Is this set adequate for someone thinking about getting into lockpicking? It's a bit smaller then the MPXS-14 in the FAQ, but it's also cheaper, and it seems like if I do decide to keep picking, the HPC picks would last longer. (I remember hearing a lot about SouthOrd hook picks bending easily.)

Thanks.

The HPC novice set is an excellent set. I often recomend them to beginning lock pickers.

The drawback is the size of the case. If you are concerned that you may outgrow the case quickly, you could check out the Deluxe pick set.

It is a standard zipper case, with plenty of room for future expansion.

Could you provide a list of the picks in both sets? It's kind of hard to tell in the pictures at lock-depot.com and hpcworld.com.

Adjustable wafer tension wrench

NICE set, and how many picks do you use out of the whole set?

 My first post... I'm so ashamed.

Don't expect Romstar to reply, it seems he's ill at the moment.

The set is probably a bit big for simple hobbyists like I am. Romstar, though, claimed in some other post somewhere that he used the majority of the picks, even the nonhandled ones.

Doh, double post.

If you are looking for HPC picks, I never went ahead with that store, and that store has never been mentioned on the site since. Instead, I highly recommend you email the people at lockpicks.com. Send off an email to CEO@lockpicks.com. I popped off an email earlier this week, and am in the process of buying some HPC picks along with a Peterson case (turns out that Peterson started selling trifold cases again because of the call Barret Brockhage made to them :D ).

Only other site that sells both old and 2000 series HPC picks that seems reliable is lockpickersmall.com, and their prices are much, much higher.

I like C-L-K Supplies (http://clksupplies.com/shop)because you don't need a credit card to order, there are no age restrictions, and you don't have to be a professional to order. They also have great prices. They have
Superior Pick Set
Deluxe Pick set
Next Generation Pick Set
Pro-Mixer Pick Set
The Tyro Pick Set
and a couple of others like the Executive Set, The Royal Roll-Up Set, and the Emergency Pick Set.

Lockpicks.com also doesn't require a credit card: they take pretty much any form of money. The prices from lockpicks.com are:
(P/N NDPK) Deluxe Pick Set, $36
(P/N NDPK-32) Superior Pick Set, $53
(P/N NDPK-100) Paramount Pick Set, $164
(P/N AKK-P17) Pocket Killer Kit, $63
(P/N TFW-5) Tri-Fold Wallet Pick Set, $48.95
(P/N SPPS-2000) Regal Roll Up Set, $47.50
and they're willing to special order other sets from HPC. They also carry single picks, $2.50 for spring steel w/ stainless handles, $6.00 for the new 2000 stainless picks.

Yes, but they do require you to be a locksmith or repossesor and be 18 years of age.

buying direct from Peterson will probably be the most expensive if you're buying a set. lockpicks.com has them for cheaper, and unlockables.com has them for cheaper still, but lockpicks.com seems a bit more... professional. If you're going for individual picks though, peterson-international.com would be the easiest.
