Hi! Pin Pushin Question

Postby yng_pick » 19 Aug 2005 14:35

I am sure this is quite the question of an amatuer, but theres only a couple ways to get above that.

I'm sitting here in shop, trying to practice pin by pin picking on a kwikset, and Im having the same problem I have been having recently.

I am trying to push pins individually, based upon how much they are binding..
However, whenever I manage to push down a pin, I notice the pins immediately around it will also depress.

How does one manage to set pins individually without messing up the rest of them?

Thanks!

What kind of pick are you using? The problem with hitting multiple pins when you don't want to can only really be resolved by either using a different pick, moving your current pick into a different position, or just compensating for it.

First off, welcome to the forum :D

I'm guessing you are from the UK from your
"in shop" comment, but the Kwikset throws me
a bit. Fill in a general profile of where you live,
believe it or not it helps in answereing many questions.

I'm going to guess that you are using too much
tension, you are binding more than one pin, and
when you try to press a pin bound tighter, in order
for it to align, it must momentarily create a turn
of the plug which releases the other pins.

Have you tried taking out all but one or two pins?
This is the best practice when learning, I highly
recommend it. Keep us informed of your progress,
best of luck :D
