I got a good laugh out of that video. It was funny to watch the "thieves" try not to damage the door when they kicked it in. The kicks looked very wimpy and fake. "Bolt-Buddy" never even thought about attacks like this:

It was also funny that the plate facing the outside said "security" on it. The sad thing is that people feel that their home will never be entered with the Bolt-buddy on it. It gives them a very false sense of security.

One of the doors the guy was trying to pry
with a crowbar, had a big window on
it  And if they didn't want the sound
of a breaking window, a car jack would
widen the doorway rather quickly.

The only thing that bothers me is that people
gain such a false sense of security.

yea it was super low budget and like " your home will be (sp)secure if you have this little bar that says security the thieves wont even touch your door" like that would not even fase me if i was going to break into a home

The bolt buddy is actually a pretty decent add-on security device. The ads of course hyped it up to unbelievable proportions. This really is just another good device for layered security.

My two favorite parts are:

1. The guy from RB security (I know who it is but wouldn't say) talking about alarm systems...which is hilarious 'cause from what I know of 'em they don't install security systems...

2. The second is near the end with the guy in a blue shirt sitting on the front steps saying something to the effect of "no one will be able to push the door open no matter how big or tough they are". Oh really? I hope that big pane of glass in the door isn't really glass then either.  8)

Anyways, yeah. Good product, too much hype.

the lever

Postby raimundo » 25 Aug 2005 11:17

about push ins, I have long had this idea, a lever fitted to the backside of a door, when pulled, a rubber footed fulcrum hits the floor, and the lever can close the door against force. the cross section would look like the letter k with the door being the l and the foot being the lower part of the k leg, while the lever would be long and represented by the upper part. given what you can do with leverage, I little old lady could close the door against a big monster if she had a solid door to put it on. there would also be a second foot that holds while the lever is recocked for a second push to move the door even further. If the thing malfunctioned while no one was in, the foot could be dislodged by a tool under the door. who was it, archimedes or someone said with a long enough lever I could move the world. leverage is a great advantage. 8)

Like my mom thinking that her safe was safe from a thief?

Ray, I like the idea of having 30 inch spikes shoot up from the bottom of the door sill and 2 10 guage shotguns mounted in the top of the frame... nobody will enter my house un-invited... umm... at least, they won't enter whole.
