Hey guys, I'm looking at my Chateau C970, but don't have a key... is there an easy and cheap way to open it, or should I just trash it? It's a great looking lock, but what is it worth?
The Chateau C970 looks exactly like the lock on our Lock Picking 101 homepage (and this page also - check the upper right corner with the word "shop" on it). Flat 3/4" thick, round 2-3/4" diameter, an Arbus type shackle, stainless steel case with a medieval helmet on it.
With that information, do you know of any tools to open it, or what it might cost to purchase?
The only way to get at the insides of this lock is to cut it open. To do this, you'll need to cut where the two sides of the shell meet.
I believe the Chateau's keyway is not paracentric like the original diskus. It should be any easy pick, I don't think it has any spools or other security pins. I see this lock used alot for storage units.

I agree with N2aoh, however, some of the original
Abus are rekeyable. I doubt your lock is though,
you can always use it for practice, I hate to see
a lock thrown away
