"Kaychain" pick sets...seeking opinions

Hey All,

I was going to pick up one of the 'keychain' style pick sets and figured I would fish for some opinions on some of the more common ones being sold. I was thinking about getting the "Pro Lock Picking Keychain" that lockpickshop.com sells...looks pretty OK.

Anything better out there in the same price range ($30)?

I have a pretty good selection of picks but I want to get something compact and easy to keep at hand. Plus, I just want a new toy

Don't buy any of those. They are just gimmicks.

Like I said, I have many 'standard' picks, so something small and easy to hide was what I was after. I noticed that south ord had blemished 'jackknifes' so I ordered one of those for $25. Seems like a fair price and pretty much what I was looking' for. If anyone else is interested in a cheap 'jackknife' check Southern Ordanance's website in the 'outlet' section.

If small and easy to CARRY not "hide" is what your are after (There is nothing to hide about our hobby) then check out raimundo's bogotas. They are available on Varjeal's website only at this point but are well worth the small asking price.

I own one of the keychain picks, and it is pretty cheesy, just a step above home-made. It is very small, however and does work 'OK'. Like N2oah said, for the best picks, skip the pocket knife picksets (if you must have one, I would suggest the jacknife from Southern Specialties, nicely made). Ramundo's are very nice, unique and useful. And yes, they are small and stealthy.

Just to follow up...

I ordered a 'blemished' Jackknife from Southord for $25 and got it yesterday. It has a *tiny* scratch on it, almost looks perfect, anyone considering purchasing a Jackknife should really check Southords website and get a scratched one at a discount.

Hey pickit, I ordered the jacknife as well but not the stainless steel one. I got the one with the black covering.. Kinda dissapointed with the look.. should have gotten the one you had but how are the picks are they strong? I know the two models are suppose to be the same but I wanted to know from someone who has it. I ask because the ones i got look and feel like the cheap beginner picks that I got 6-7 years ago. (well it doesn't feel that cheap but you get my drift) and It made me think why did I shell out about $30 for this set when I could have gotten something much better for the same price range.

My initial thinking was, if I ever lost my keys then I could really put it to use in the field and get into my house... but then I realized.. if I had my keychain jacknife on my keys and I lost my keys then that would have defeated the whole entire idea lol. Still, I got it anyways because its portable. and not bulky

The picks are the same, it's the shell thats different. So long as you aren't abusing them, they are an alright set. What I dislike most about them is the loss of control and feeling with the compact tension wrench.
