Disappointing HPC 2000 picks

Postby stick » 4 Sep 2005 1:01

I recently got my hands on my first ever HPC picks: old style spring steel w/ stainless handle hook and half diamond, and the new HPC 2000 picks, hook and deforest. I'm amazed at the quality of HPC; they're far beyond what I expected, and are amazing. I hesitate to use my HPC hook because I don't want to ruin the finish on this perfect pick; I'm probably going to order a few extra hooks just in case. However, the 2000 hook has proved somewhat... useless. Perhaps it's because my expectations of them were so high that they were impossible to reach, but I'm finding that the HPC 2000 hook is far less useful than the old hook.

I was wondering if anyone else shared my views? I remember reading some older posts by Luke and others voicing their disappointment at the HPC 2000 picks, but those are ooold threads.

The 2000 hook is a mm or two taller than the old HPC short hook, making it just a little too big to easily slide under the pins.

2000 series picks take a while to get used to, but after a few weeks you will be popping locks open with those deforest picks in no time(the ball one is good but it likes to bend when you get too heavy handed)

The hook is the tallest hook i have seen in my 4-5 years of locksmithing. I find it use full to pick locks that have a high-low-high-low combination seing as the pick is tall and can push down a small pin while its next to a large pin with out disturbing the set taller pin.

wow..its way too early to be trying to make sence of something. :x
