Just Picked my First BS lever lock

Postby Vincent-XXI » 4 Sep 2005 11:09

A big thanks to Quicklocks videos, especially the seethrough ERA, after watching that I wen't out and got a BS lever lock took it apart spent better part of a day playing with it, taking it apart removing the levers learning how it works, inserting one lever at a time, opening it with e key watching the levers.

Then spent a few hours filing one of the keys down leaving a notch along most of its length and removing most of its teeth leaving a small stump to turn the curtain. I used piano wire bent in an L shape to make the second part before realising it didn't work nad it needed to be bent to the right before being bent up so reach over part of the curtain. I'm going to search through shops on Monday searching for something to use as a handle on the wire, its a little awkard at times, I put a bend in the wire at about 60 degress which helps alot but something a little bigger would help some more.

I used to think it was unfair films came out first in America now I don't care, We have lever locks to play with they don't :P

Quicklocks, if your ever in Belfast I'm buying you a pint of guiness.

the 3rd and 5th levers don't get lifted at all the 4th isn't too bad the 2 neeed to be liftedrather high and the pick was barely long enough to lift the 1st high enough.

Going to get more piano wire as well, make more try different widths, but that 4th lever was a royal pain, as the 3rd doesn't need to be lifted at all, reaching the 4th lever was a pain the 3rd lever was like a wall vetween me and it, had to make a small hook from a tiny scrap of wire to reach around it then pick the 1st too levers with the other part.

So in short I only was able to pick it because of knowing how the levers were arranged but I learnt alot and hopefully I start being able to tell how levers are need to be set by touch.

Golf ball might work I'll give it a try.

Going to head into town tomorrow get more wire, and some non BS lever locks, might see about a second BS lever lock, any you'd recommend?

Maplin

Nice handles for picks can be made out of very low melting point plastic, say about 60 C. You heat it in a cup of very hot water and take it out and can shape it like clay. When it sets it is a hard and very strong plastic. I got some of this from a Maplin electronics shop here (called polymorph I think). Also if the handle is not quite right, you just warm it again and make it better.

I use it a lot. I also wrap that around some of the professional picks to make a better handle, but mainly for picks made out of bike spokes and piano wire etc.
