BMW motorcycle locks

I have two 10 year old BMW motorcycles and all of the locks seem good quality in the sense they stay clean and smoothly working etc, and look well made, but the problem is you can pick all of them with a single stroke of a standard rake. As they are so smooth you can turn it with the rake (beginners should not even think about this, and I should not either), without damage.

Does anyone know what locks they might have used? I was wondering if this had anything to do with my pet hate --- Abus locks!

Also does anyone know if the newer bikes have better locks, as I will need to replace these machines soon as they have both about 100 000 miles on the clock.

If they do still use bad locks is it easy to change the locks on something like a motorcycle. I hope that they use standard fittings but do not know if this is true.

If your talking about the ignition lock, i'd maybe think twice about posting this in an open forum, but we will leave this to the mods.

About the lock, maybe because of all the years of usage with the original key ruined it a little, and made it easier. to pick. Same thing happened with my old garage lock, I could insert the snake pick, and it would pick it's self. But you did say that this was happening on your 2 bikes, weird.

It is true of all the locks on both bikes of different models but the same age (within a few months). I do not think it is too much of a worry if it is only true of BMW bikes, as most bikers will also use a padlock and chain too, and mine is Abloy. However it is very strange. Although the locks are old it is strange that it is true for them all.

Longer ago still I know that car locks were once very bad, but that is nolonger true for the cars that I know these days. Given BMW have such a good name it would be strange for them to use bad locks, though that it what they appear to have done with some of their bikes.

That might be true in general for bikes, and one of the reasons why people use padlocks too, though this is often to attach the bike to some big too!

I know that on cars, even thoug their locks are exellent, the doors can be opened very easily.

I don't know about the motorbikes though.

I just said it can be opened easily, I didn't say how to open them. Anyways, your not in the right position at the moment to say something like that lol.

It's kinda hard for someone not to take notice if this, if this kind of information is maybe not supposed to be here.

This is none of my buisness anyways, let's leave the decision to the mods, I am not trying to be bossy or anything, I am just trying not to make a mess.
