How much pressure do you apply to the tension wrench?

How much pressure do you apply to the tension wrench?

I am new at this lock picking stuff, and am getting my first lock pick set friday. My questin is how much pressure should i apply to the tension wrench? Thanks.

not too much, not too little.

ake sure there is enough to set the pins, but if it is hard to press the pins up, or they get stuck when you lift them then you are using too much.

You kind of learn it as a 6th sense after a while :wink:

Use only as much pressure as is needed to turn the key.

The first thing you should do is get a feel for the lock by pressing each of the pins up without the tenison tool even inserted. Then you have a frame of reference for what your tension is doing to the frictions withing the lock. You also might have to pay attention to maintaining a consistent tension once a few pins have set and the cylinder has shifted slightly.

I found that the weight of two or three standard (ie KW1) keys attatched to the end of the tension wrench is enough to unlock it.

Using a tension wrench, which has been passed through the hole in the key bow, can give you a good indication of how much is required. (I can't remember who initially suggested this...anyone else remember?)
