I am new at this lock picking stuff, and am getting my first lock pick set friday. My questin is how much pressure should i apply to the tension wrench? Thanks.
not too much, not too little.

ake sure there is enough to set the pins, but if it is hard to press the pins up, or they get stuck when you lift them then you are using too much.
The first thing you should do is get a feel for the lock by pressing each of the pins up without the tenison tool even inserted. Then you have a frame of reference for what your tension is doing to the frictions withing the lock. You also might have to pay attention to maintaining a consistent tension once a few pins have set and the cylinder has shifted slightly.

Using a tension wrench, which has been passed through the hole in the key bow, can give you a good indication of how much is required. (I can't remember who initially suggested this...anyone else remember?)
If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!
