I am shopping for a pick set, but i dont know how many to get. I am a beginner, so i do not need that many (mabie five, i think thats the lowest) and was just wondering how many picks does one need to pick a kwikset lock? Thanks.

You need two tools to pick a quickset lock. If you search around you'll see why, what these two tools are, and where you can find them or make them. Searching is your friend.

Only the one that opens the lock. The rest pretty much just stay in the case.

Beginners can make do with four picks. A half-diamond, hook, snowman (or half-snowman) and snake rake. Plus one tension wrench makes a five piece set. Try the SouthOrd C500 set. Relatively cheap five piece slimline set that has all you need.  
Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....
