Am I drunk?
If TOWCH is correct, I would say that you'd probably want to let it be unless you intend on getting well involved in this hobby. I think the "30 minutes against expert manipulation" would tell you that it is probably about as close to a lost cause as you're apt to find.
If you're intent on going at it, check out an article called "Safecracking for the Computer Scientist" on www.crypto.com, although I'm not entirely sure the method described there would even work.
Good luck in any event!

I'm actually looking for another one to take apart if you're interested in selling.
edit
--------------
I haven't taken one of these apart yet, but I'm pretty sure these locks are direct fence, requiring some modification to the method outlined in Matt Blaze's paper.

No they are not direct fence .. the are actually miniture safe locks.
The one I took apart had plastic (delron?) wheels.
They do not go back together well (if at all).
They are designed for goverenment use, and most likely can't be opened by conventional means.
You might try drilling a small hole in the change key area and "scope' the change key hole for the combo.

Hey, just curious, but for the lockies here familiar with this, is this worth the $61 they're asking? I've got the new S&G catalog and pricelist for '05, and a NEW 833 (833-09) is listing at a retail of $1282.92, soooo...??

The lock featured on eBay is an 831b, an 833c has never reached civilian hands. If you so please, you can buy the 831b on eBay, it's your choice.

Ok, so what's the 831 usually retail for (or used to, as the case may be, since there's no 831 in the '05 catalog)?
This has really become a hypothetical question now, I think, as between LSS, Falle-Safes, and too many....well, I guess you can never have TOOOOO many --locks and other what-nots, I can't justify 60 bucks for almost ANY lock now. So, if you were holding off on bidding because you were in fear of bidding against the fearsome devildog, well...you may proceed.

An 833c has indeed reached civilian hands -- Han Fey owns several!
And if you have any more, let me know. Between the two of us they'll all be gone
