When I was in Germany recently I visited a couple of what we call DIY shops in the UK (Baumarkt in German). In front of every lock display area there would be one of these Abus cutaways, locked onto a chain. I didn't have very long to look as I was with the family, but it was still fun to see. My first thought was that if you opened the lock you could walk off with it (if you were dishonest!). But there was some clever 'not so obvious' mechanism to prevent this.
I guess Abus makes these available to distributors, and perhaps the guy on eBay is taking advantage of this.
Looking at the bids I notice that *one of you* is bidding for a second one. Which means that the price is going to be high again as I like the look of these!
