I dont have the sv profit decoder but Im pretty sure it is just the plastercine reader keys with the make up key so yes I agree they are easy to decode it's just the make up key that comes in handy.

If you have a file or key machine the make up key isnt even worth having, i made my own but never use it, i just file the blank down on site

Shrub do you have the details of the markings you get on your reader key for the profit would it be possible to get a copy of them also what type of file are you using to cut blanks at the door (I dont have a cutter yet)

 The reading is the key  cut the marks and you have the key, its an exact impression.

A thinned down flat file or a good thin file will work or a needle file, i dont do that many but ive done it both ways, ive used my cutter and done it free hand or ive filed at the door, if the customer just wants the keys replacing (lost keys i always suggest a rekey or new lock) then you just cut a proper blank and transpose the other 2 cuts on the side you remved to get your reading.

There is no subsititute for the Safe Ventures kit. I use the profit kit pretty much on a daily basis. The profit lock is not a 100% reliable decode and you are not always going to get the exact code first time round. On this basis you need a make up key that you can remake and remake again as necessary (I'm the first to admit its a pain of a make up key). If you cut a key to your first read, you could be cutting several and if you are doing it by hand then you will be there all night. Its not really a practical way of saving a few quid.

Surely you just cut it a bit high, and then impression it to the exact fit you need?

... not if the impression is too low ... Remember that the 3 and 5 levers read the same so cutting a key on that basis may set you back a bit .. it's better to use a make up key that you can remake quickly and cut a key when you get it right ...

No, I mean impression the lock with plastercine first, and cut a rough draft, and then impression it properly against the levers to finish it off.

I'm with Pinky, though, you just pick it!
