I think we need some pictures here. It is going to be hard to explain it to a newbie when we can't see what we are dealing with. There are different ways to take off different locksets. Typically to remove a handle, there is a retaining pin or a hole on the inside handle that you can either unscrew or depress. If it is a retaining pin, unscrew it and remove the handle, from there you can remove the screws that are holding it to the door. if it is a button, you will see just a small hole on the stem of the handle, push a paperclip into it and pull the handle away from the door, completeing the task by removing the screws holding it to the door. Again, get some pictures. If it is a morticed lockset, it requires a different procedure
