Schlage IC core padlock need little help

Postby searsman05 » 12 Jan 2006 22:35

Ok here is what i got:

Now the question is i know that there is a control key that has to be used to remove the core but i do not have a key for this lock, now i have been successful at picking it with a pick gun that i have but i cant ever get the last pin to set in so i can remove the core. Now i know a little about the schlage ic cores but not everything, i know that there is a control key and it is a bit longer to hit the seventh pin. Now one question is the last pin spring loaded? is it normal size ? any info or ideas would help thanks

There may be a hex screw where the shackle pops out. Unscrew it then the core will come out. If not, you'll need to hit the 7th pin.

I believe that the final, seventh check pin is:

- Slightly smaller than the others

- Always depressed to the same height -- equivalent to a 3rd or 4th height cut or something like that

- Apparently less understood by myself than I had thought... maybe zeke will chime in once he battles off his virus, he's more familiar with these LFICs. I didn't think that you need to press the check pin before turning the plug, but I suppose you might.

the only thing i was thinging was if i pick the lock then use the pick to press up on the last pin maybe i can get it to pull the release pin back but i am not sure how strong the release pin spring is. I might not be able to press hard enough on that pin to get it to bind on the release mechanism.

The control pin must be lifted either before rotation(which in my experience is not possible when picking) or just very slightly after you have picked it and only rotated a fraction of a degree. These can be a pain to pick to control for sure. I actually have a couple of unican locks that the local lockie dropped off for me to remove the schlage LFIC cores from today.

Vector40 is right, the control pin is always lifted a the same height across all locks. If memory serves me correctly, this is a 6 or 7 cut on a control blank. These blanks are expensive, but if you have one you can easily copy it onto a 6 pin blank in a key duplicator by cutting slightly into the bow of the key. I have done this and it works very well.

Another method you might try is bumping with a bumkey cut on a control blank. That will probably be the easiest method that I can recommend to you as it can be a pain to pick these to control as I mentioned before.

Schlage large format IC

You will have to have the plug almost (like 1 degree from locking)to the locked position to pick the control pin, it is about 1/2 the diameter of a ' normal pin". You only have to push it up as far as it can go, as it engages the control lug .. there is no shear line for the contol pin.

That is an "F" keyway in case you wanted to know.
