As to how to get the wafers out. Read this:

If your lock is different from that like my only wafer lock is there might be a little itty bitty wafer past all the others holding it all together. Press that and it might come apart like mine does.
I know that for American's double bitted waveform keys they recommend that you order a keyed plug from the fatory by code.
Also if you want to attempt to rekey yourself there is a service kit you can probably get by contacting American directly.
Althoough the process sounds kind of iffy to me. You need to remove the old tumblers and insert the new ones.
Now I'm guessing they are all the same configuration because after that you have to insert your new operating key (make sure it is fully inserted) and using a hole saw or grinder remove the excess material from the disc tumblers until they are flush with the outside diameter of the plug.
Probably easier to just get the replacement cylinders.

There is a key guage on page 28 of that same pdf file. It says that all American locks use the same key depth and spacing.
