I would like information on disassembly and rekeying of American double sided cylinders. I have a number of old American Padlocks (3 series L50, 1 series 50, 1 series K60, and several smaller ones with no series markings)
I have the locks open and the cylinders are out, and now I need some help and advice.
1. How do I get the wafers out of the cylinder?
2. Is there a "key gauge" for American double sided keys? I'm not sure how it would work, but you would think there would be one.
3. I will inevitably need new wafers since I plan to key them alike. Any tips on finding wafers for these? I see lots of pin sets for sale, and a few wafers, but I don't think I have ever seen wafers for these locks anywhere.
I have some old Junkung Bros keys. I plan to use one of those for the "new key," however I am having trouble visualizing the process of getting from the key... to figuring out which new wafers I need.
And lastly, I need to know how to get them into the cylinder.
I searched LP101, but I haven't run across a guide for double sided or double bitted American locks. If there is one please point me in that direction.
Thanks for any assistance.
