My First Padlock Cut-Away

Postby illusion » 23 Apr 2006 13:38

This was the first time I tried making a padlock cut-away, so I know it's not perfect.

The whole thing was made using a Dremmel and some sheets of wet&dry sandpaper. Took about 5 hours in total to do, but I really wasn't sure where I had to cut.

When I did finish the cut-away it looked like crap, but a fair amount of time spent with the wet&dry smoothed out the 'death-scars' that the Dremel had left.

I'll stop talking and just post a photo:

I managed to expose the sidebar, yet leave enough metal on each side to keep it securely in place. Oh yeah, and the lock was silver colored before, but I had to sand away so much it ended up exposing the brass under it.

Comments, criticisms, adoration... let me hear your thoughts. :)

They're gonna send you back to mother

Thanks. :)

Smooth edges are easy, the secret is wet&dry sandpaper - I bought a pack of 4 sheets for £1... if you don't have some get some - it's like buying gold for a penny. I got mine from Halfords, but B&Q or Homebase will have it as well.

Hmmm... what lock will I attack next? :P

What kind of lock is it? I've never seen one before. The cut-away looks excellent by the way!
