Garrison bumping

Postby SPANNER » 28 May 2006 15:52

So ive given up with the foil impressioning for now and cut me some Mul T Lock Garrison keys down to the deepest depth :) got myself a lock and started having ago at this bumping milarkey ! cant afford fancy red indian sounding hammers so im using a screwdriver and the rubber end taken from a large file handle. To date im not getting anywhere  any pointers on the write amount of tension needed and some idea on how hard the striking force should be? its bank holiday in the uk tomorrow and its bound to rain so a day of bump practice will suit me fine :!:

You need to take a bit of the tip and make a false shoulder with a bit of tubeing or such like.

Hit the key with a sharp foloowed through hit and at the same time as the strike try rotating the key, once you get the technique down you can hit it quicker and more often letting the key turn back again in between hits.

The other way that i dont get much luck with is to put a constant tension on and then hit it.

bump

Postby raimundo » 29 May 2006 14:19

I had slapped around some bump keys with stainless butter knives and such in the past, but when someone sent me a bumpking hammer, I was shocked at how easy it was, then after my fingers got scared of the hammer, I filed off the sharp corners, but this thing is still a foot long, so for carry, I am thinking, does it need that handle, how about if I push a thick mountain bike spoke through a superball, or just find a superball on a cord, I can use that for a keychain ornament, and also slap the bump key without seriously endangering my fingers. I havent made this yet, but its coming, i bought two hi bounce 'marbleballs' (reference to the tiedied colors) at targetstore, and I will soon have a ball on a short loop of cord, or with a bike spoke for a handle. I am sure that the round surface will strike just as well as the flat one. the balls I bought are about two inch diameter, could have gone a bit smaller if they had them.

Raimundo, ive got a "swingball" set in my shed its got the hole in the tennis ball allready pre drilled and edged ill have to give it a go. I have moved on from using the wrong end of my large file and have startd to use a snooker ball with a very high rate of sucess. For some reason it makes my timing better and my aim,so no more sore knuckles  im gonna try a cricket ball next and see how that goes?
