i am making a cut away cylinder of an american 5200 and i took it apart and every single pin inside is a security pin, there are serrated pins, serrated spool pins or double spool pins, i was like omg, there is no way i could see anyone picking this in 1 minute without a key, i will have a hard time picking it looking at the pins

 HAHAHA Yes they are evil locks and I love them. You say it had 5 security pins, cool I have only seen 4 security pins myself but like you, I have seen them in several diffrent combinations.

No kidding, it's havoc inside those American cylinders. I just received a dozen American padlocks, broke them down to see the combinations of the pins, and yes I agree it's crazy in there.

It's difficult picking them due to the immense spring tension from the Actuator Spring, but pull the cylinder and practice with it. It will give you a little more feel when dealing with security pins w/out fighting the tension.

I always thought having a security pin in chamber one caused possible jamming

No. I do not see why it should, at least. BKS (german manufacturer) made one of their most popular runn-of-the-mill europrofile cylinders with pins 1 and 2 spool-pinned for a LOOOOONG time.

Abus has spools in chambers 1-4 and a serrated security pin in chamber 5. They have a short cylinder with only three pins, an in that one all three chambers are spooled.

No problems. The only thing that might happen in a lock pinned completely with spools is that the plug might turn a bit while inserting the key, that would prolly jam further insertion of the key until you rotate it back to 0°.
Due to financial limitations the light at the end of tunnel has been turned off until further notice.
