I dont understand this statement here? did i offend you?

I think he's alluding to me.

By the way, I would've used much worse language if I wanted to be a thug. I'm just trying to get my point across. You'll thank me when that dremel disk barely misses your hand.

No, he was talking to noah.

I do think that making cutaways is definately not as simple as 'just look at a picture of one and copy it'. No, I've been thinking of writing up a post just like this one suggesting that someone experienced in making cutaways post a guide on how to do a SIMPLE BASIC PIN TUMBLER (i.e. a Schlage 5 pin mortise, Kwikset/American/Schlage KIK, a basic Euro, etc.) cutaway, and then anyone who's particularly good at doing cutaways of certain locks, or has just done one before, can post guides and/or suggestions on how to do them (i.e. Medeco, Primus, ASSA 6000/Twin/V10, Abloy, Mul-T-Lock, etc.).

Look, I've got a pretty good idea how to do a simple 5 or 6 pin pin-tumbler mortise cutaway, like a plain Schlage/Sargent/Yale/etc., and I've never done a cutaway before, but I have been screwing around with locks of all shapes and sorts for over a year now and know the insides and outsides of some of them quite well--other people (noobs) may not have that advantage and could, therefore, genuinely need help with something simple like that. Also, the more sophisticated locks, i.e. anything with a sidebar, will almost certainly require you to get help if you've never done one before.

I, too, think that a Tool/Shop/Fabrication forum would be an EXCELLENT idea, and in such a forum we could have a nice little dedicated stickied thread about fabricating cutaways where everyone shares knowledge back and forth, posts pics and guides for various locks, etc. It's a great idea, and if a few would give this a shot I think others would get involved and it would snowball into a massive amount of knowledge, just like the 'homebrew hall of fame' thread or shrub's 'how I made an electric pickgun' thread--we got a whole bunch of info. on how people made all these different types of picks.

If it means anything

I think a Tool/Shop/Fabrication would rock the house!

Building anything that isnt a pick or wrench would go there i assume?

Personally, I believe you need some metal working skills (and if someone doesn't have them, I doubt they can acquire them on an internet forum).

But then, you need pictures to look at and get inspired. And you can find lots of them here:

It also won't hurt asking the people who made the pictures about specific details.

(Also, feel free to be inspired by my current sig :) - that's an ABUS Plus padlock cutway, still working fine)

Cheers,
