Help removing EZSET key-in-knob cylinder

Postby Raccoon » 28 Aug 2006 17:43

I'm rekeying some EZSET deadbolts and key-in-knobs. The deadbolts were straight forward, using a schlage type retainer pin. The knobs on the other hand are using a system I'm not familiar with.

The knob is removed from the lock by rotating the knob a few degrees while it is unlocked, and depressing a pin on the side of the knob so the knob slides off. The lock cylinder is retained inside the knob, and I need to remove the plug. The pin chambers (the bible) prevents the entire cylinder from being removed, and I can't identify any C-clips that are preventing the plug from being removed. If there are C-clips, I have no idea how I would reach them through the tiny opening of the back of the knob.

I need to get these keyed in 20 minutes.

I could have sworn that i've seen this type of question before recently. If your trying to get the cylinder out, you will have to remove the cylinder housing from the knob first.

It should be similar to a Kwikset KIK. There is a link to a site that shows how to do this including pictures. I will try to find it, or if anyone else has it, feel free to post it. :)

Not sure if this is the same situation, but I remember this coming up recently and I didn't see you on any of the posts, so maybe it's relevant? I'm sorry if it's now. Best of luck :\

I figured it out, thanks! It was similar in design to the Schlage key-in-knob, except there was an extra ring-sheath snapped into the back of the knob, that appeared to be permanently affixed, but I managed to pry it off carefully. This was blocking the cylinder from being removed.

Here are written instructions for future reference, but no visual aid.

Good deal bud, glad you got it. I looked and couldn't find it, and some pics would have helped, but no big deal. I tried to help! :D

BTW great text (Sig), IMO that's the truth, some/most people depend on others to ptotect and look after them, when indeed they should protect and look after themselves.
