are you familiar with snap guns? rakes work on a similar principle. the "vibrate" the pins quickly until they find the shear line. keep in mind that when raking, pins need to move relatively freely, so the technique requires less tension than single pin picking. also, try different patterns of raking. sometimes, rake from back to front. sometimes, front to back. sometimes, move the rake up and down, in and out, simultaneously. (kinda like patting your head and rubbing your belly at the same time) come up with your own patterns. it still takes practice, of course, to get the right feel for tension and raking pattern. keep it up and you'll pop one sooner than later.
