Funny ive heard this many times, but even after hearing it i dont take it seriously, and i dont think many others do either. Yeah it does wear down the lock pins but its so hard to resist doing. The temptation is just to strong to try it.
there are alot of other problems that can arise other then pins wearing down ... like turing the plug too far.... don't do it unless you have the money to replace what ever it is you're messing with
yeah. seriously. search around at some of the panicky posts from newer users that locked themselves out or ruined their front door because they wanted to pick their way in. it is actually quite funny at first. then it gets sad, because the person is stuck, and they wouldnt be if they had heeded our warnings.
that being said, if you really know what you're doing, and you KNOW you can fix your door without any problems regardless of anything that could happen, then you are free to pick your own locks all you want. but usually new users dont have the knowledge to fix it if they break it.
