Master combination lock with rear keyway.

I found an old master combination lock that i has been lying around as long as i can remember. I picked it up today and noticed that it had a keyway in the back.

At first i thought that it must have been a master key type thing that would open the lock, but after picking it it didn't release the shackle at all??? The lock only turned 90 degrees counter clockwise if that makes any difference.....

Does anyone know what the function of this keyway is??? Is it to re code the combination?

Any info would be much appreciated.

does the lock have a logo like the one on this lock?

if so its a TSA lock. the key is used by airport staff to look through your baggage.

Ok, I have picked that lock open.

It didn't have a sticker on it.


I have now began to try to decode the combination via the open shackle method.

I have identified the gates but when i goto add or subtract the 11-15 i cant get the lock to open.....

I was hoping that someone could tell me the "o'clock" position the the gates need to align to in order to release the shackle ie. their open positions. That way i can work out the exact number i need to add or subtract from my shackle view numbers.

that is a view of a cutaway. if you look at the second pic and describe the open position of the gates in regards to the rest of the lock that would be great!

YEAH!

I just worked it out. the gates have to be pretty much @ 2 o'clock when looking at the dial shackle up. So if you are looking at the gates from the shackle hole then you need to add and or subtract numbers in order to align the gates so that they are in the mirrored position to that that you saw through the shackle hole.

So basically if you decode them @ 10 o'clock via the shackle hole then you need to re align them @ 2 o'clock to open the lock.
