defcon, schmoocon, hope conferences. in euopre you have CCC and the toool , they are mostly meetings and such , semi casual, not so much a seminar.

the last 2 years it has been very hard to get in, you have to know someone to get invited, i heard its inviation only, its at a small basement in a hostel, not much room and hundreds of people want to go.

Getting into a lockpicking workshop might be kinda hard...and expensive. You could always try TOOOL's videos, they've got 2 or 3 workshops that you can learn a lot from without actually being there.

Here in Ontario TAOL (The association of Ontario locksmiths) offers seminars and workshops. One example is factory certification on Medecos. They spend like 3 hours teaching you every single thing about the locks. You also get to keep one lock and you get a certificate to put in your shop window/wall etc. Also they will register your name and business address with the Medeco website, so when people in your neighbourhood search the net for someone to fix their lock, your name will pop up. An extremeley beneficial service in my mind. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
