A new lock idea- maybe?

I don't know if this is already produced but let me know what you guys think of this for a new lock.

Basically, you have the same set up as a normal cylinder, except that it would be cut in half. So instead if one rotating part - you would have 2. You would be able to pick the first cylinder- but it would just spin freely. It would be more difficult to insert a tension wrench into the far end of the lock to pick it...but would still be susceptible to bumping. You could also make it so the that wards on the first turning part of the cylinder would be different than the other turning part of the cylinder.

Not that there is a huge need for another type of lock.....but do you see any flaws with the idea?

from what i'm understanding, you'd only need to pick the back half to open the lock right? so the pins in the front half would be extraneous. still, a free rotating front to a standard pin tumbler would definitely make picking harder, you'd need to use a much longer tension wrench which would mess up your torque control.

Yes I see a problem, you would be taking a 6 pin lock and making it into a couple of three pin locks, tension could be applied straight through the entire core and still pick it three and three at a time, or your tensor could have a fifteen degree twist at the center so that it puts press on the outer easy three first, however there is not reason you couldn't put the twist the other direction and do the deep easy three first. Or use a bogota and do them both together at the same time on a straight tensor blade. essentially this idea facilitates picking, it does not resist it.

Ummmm, yeah....I guess at 4 a.m. or so it seemed like an interesting workable idea with room for improvement....but now it doesn't seem all that practical for the costs involved in producing one. Thanks.

If I remember correctly someone else had this idea and there was quite a long thread about it a while ago...
