You need to read the stickies on the euorpean sections, ive written a few guides and illusion also has,
Forget the welding wire, you will curse the day it snaps off in the lock and jams the lever pack up,
Go get yourself some piano wire,
On the try out keys you will find few people on here have them or at least have them intact as they are usually ground to make other tools or simply sold or thrown away, for their intended purpose they are crap,
Im sorry i could concentrate enough to see what the rest of your text is but i think ive answered your questions, i remember somthing about brake pipe etc, all i can tell you is forget the copper's etc and use stainless steel and at a push brass tube but alluminum and copper need to be stayed away from,
What have you done by way of turning the curtain? have you used a lip or a pin or somthing else?
How have you covered both hands of lock, have you made two tools for one lock or have you made it universal?
