F350 igniton pulling

Postby assweasel » 30 Mar 2007 10:26

If anyone can PM me an answer i would appreciate it.

Don't answer here as I am sure it is against the forum rules.

I've been trying to make a key for an 1997 F350
These are the steps I have taken so far

Called Ford with the VIN and they are not able to retrieve the igniton code.

Pulled a door lock and made a key from that works fine in the Door not in the ignition.

Tried impressioning. Cylinder is to loose and sloppy for impressioning and I suck at this anyway.

I now have pulled the cowling around the steering column and I can see what needs to be done. It appears that in order to get the cylinder out I am in need of a working key to to turn the cylinder a bit.

Question I have is short of just drilling this mother out is there a way that I can pull the cylinder that is a bit less intrusive?

I have very little experience with Automotive locks and could use some advice as to how to proceed from here.

Will apply to advanced section and am sure can get the answer there but i would really like to get this done for the weekend.

The truck is owned by a freind of mine with an auto body shop and I want to by the truck off him. Hard to tell if I am interested when I cant even start the thing.

Also this was originally a US vehicle so has no Daytime running lights in Canada needs this to pass inspection. If I run a hot wire from the ignition fuse to the Headlamp relay fuse will this turn the lights on when ignition is turned on?

Just need to pass the ATransport canada inspection for this and can pull the wire after the fact.

I think this too may be considered advanced material, except for perhaps the impressioning. The Mods will verify that.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

The key you made for the door will only work on the door because it has less wafers installed than the ignition. You will need to make a progression chart and cut the possible remaining combinations using a few keyblanks.

Other than that, the rest of this is really an advanced topic so I am going to lock this up.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

I am also going to add that a non advanced member asking advanced information from advanced memebers via pm is not on,

It is agaisnt the rule of shareing info on those sections with people not on those sections,

We know it goes on but to put a post up like this the issue has to be addressed,

No harm done and no offence intended its just that this comes after almost everyone on site has just had a pm from a kid trying to open a gun safe,
