CVScam wrote:JackNco I can understand your point but I could also make the point that almost any video or post that shows someone bumping or raking open a lock violates your "rules':
1 - this is a hobby site and that doesnt really take any skill. (bumping+raking)
4 - you are literally teaching people how to steal.
5 - it gives the sport a bad name.
6 - you are destroying those locks going at them like that.
According to those criteria all posts and videos showing how to bump or rake any lock shouldn't be included on this forum, or be in the advanced section only.
ill answer this in to parts...
Raking.
Is not the same as its not AS easy as some people make out, and mastering it as a fine art (IE speed raking or opening a lock in a single swipe) which i would never say i have mastered. most of the videos on youtube are people thrashing about in cheap locks till they open not really raking it with any skill. but i do see your point on this and it is a good point. but you can chose what lock you use one something you want to secure, and so you get what you pay for. cars come with locks that in most cases cant be upgraded.
And so does not violate and of the "rules" (as you put it) that i posted.
Bumping.
In short yes. I do think bumping should be an advanced topic. its something that has been discussed to death on here and its something the mods/admins want to leave. and im not going to argue with them and its not my place to.
In retrospect. bumping IS a problem, it always will be. And the more fuss thats made over it the more people will know about it, which is a good thing. as with before you chose the locks you buy to secure something unlike on a car. and spending two or three times the cost of a cheap lock on one that cant be bumped is something i think most people should be educated about so they can make there own decision about it.
Unfortunately bumping is so easy that once you know about it you can teach your self how to do it in a matter of minutes. but now the cat is out of the bag its better everyone know about it rather than just people that are up to no good. and you never know maybe insurance companies will even start recognizing it eventually.
But to sum up, let be fair, if some one is going to break in to a house they are stealing the content's not the house. if some ones stealing a car a lot of the time they may want to sell it on and so damaged locks/windows are something the bad guys want to avoid. which makes this more of a problem than bumping or raking.
All the best
