Magnum by Master Lock (Newbie)

Postby cmsileo » 26 May 2007 11:42

Hello, First off, I'm new here and have been browsing the forums a bit and want to commend everyone here on their professionalism that is hard to come by these days on forums. Anyway, yesterday I took a trip to the home depot to get a pratice lock for me to start on, I only had a few bucks on me and the selection wasnt that great, a lot of larger expensive locks looking like they were going to be tough, so I picked up a Franklin rim cylinder lock which I havn't really tried yet and this Magnum lock by master. Its a brass color with the word Magnum on the front and it says No. 240 on the side.

Now I was actually able to pick this open with some try and very light tension on the lock but now I can't do it for the life of me. Does anyone have any tips or know what types of pins are in this guy and the Franklin? Thanks!

Welcome to the site, thankyou for the complements,

Over trying is a big problem when learning,

May i suggest you click my www button and read up on the guide located there,

This guide will teach you how to strip your cylinder and remove some of the pins so it becomes easier to learn on,

You will then do well to click on my signiture and read up some of the stuff there namely the beginers picking exorcise by db,

As uwsdwf said try it laid in bed at night or in front of the tv, once that concentration lays off a bit you will be a lot calmer and find they open a lot more often,

It is of course possable that youve damaged the lock but if the key still works with no stiffness you will be fine,

Welcome to the forums dude, you got what they call ..........
Beginners luck :-)

However don't give up, do as above and keep at it, it may take some hours, even some weeks. But just keep at it.
Next time you open it there will have been less luck and a little bit of skill.
The more you open it the less luck there is and the more skill, eventually there is no luck involved and just plain pure, hard learned skill :-)

Hang around, read lots and practice lots and above all, have fun :-)
