Well, I'd hate to be seen as the antagonistic idiot of this group, but.......
I kind of need an edit button.
Given the bloody length of my posts, and the fact that sometimes I make some serious typos I'd love the ability to fix the glaring errors in my posts.
I spelled thief "theif" through an entire post once. All because I wasn't watching how I typed. That's trivial of course, but sometimes a wrong word can change the entire meaning of a sentence. It also has the added problem of making me look like a boob.
My personal beef is people who can't seem to be bothered with using proper spelling, punctuation or worse yet, grammar. The internet is a medium not of graphics, but of the printed word.
At a time in history when so many people have the ability to make their opinions, views and ideas known, we are losing the ability to coherently communicate them.
The internet, entertainment industry, and to no small degree, the educational system, have created an entire generation of people who simply are unable to properly use the English language. In addition to these younger participants, we seem to have an entire category of older users who seem to require either some lessons in English, or a good swift kick for being just plain lazy.
Keep in mind, many of these older users are the same people who would have been aghast to see such butchery if it were typed or written on paper.
Many people have the mistaken idea that the internet is fleeting, that content simply vanishes into the digital ether. I can tell you, this simply isn't true. Unless every large network that makes up the internet were to suddenly crash, the things you typed and contributed five years ago, or even ten years ago are quite likely still to be found.
Almost every page of this forum is currently cached at Google, and quite possibly in other areas as well. It would be difficult to recreate the entire forum, but very likely possible to retrieve most of the content should the main server this forum exists on, crash.
Basically my question wasn't about why I don't have an edit button. It was about what happened to my edit button. I didn't previously have one, and then one day I did, and a day later I didn't. In the same place, in the same message I had previously edited. I was simply curious at the time, but I suppose now I am basically outlining why I could personally use the thing. It seemed odd to me to have it one day, and not the next. So I thought perhaps there was a reason for it.
Anyway, take care all,
Romstar
